Eva Jeanne Markosky is studying environmental engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. As a former environmental engineering intern for the Markosky Engineering Group, she was responsible for completing bridge inspection sketches, conducting computer-aided design and drafting, and performing environmental fieldwork. Eva Jeanne Markosky also supports the community improvement nonprofit group buildOn, which will host a team at the Boston Marathon in April 2016.
The Boston Marathon is one of the world’s oldest races. The race offers an opportunity for buildOn’s marathon team members to make a positive impact on both local and global levels by providing the organization with the resources to work with local inner-city high school students and build schools in developing countries. All proceeds raised by the buildOn marathon team will support local buildOn programs, such as summer leadership programs and Trek for Knowledge events.
Boston’s buildOn chapter seeks at least 10 individuals to join its team for the 2016 marathon, although those who already possess a race bib may also join the cause. Interested individuals must complete an online application through buildOn’s website and commit to raising at least $8,500 for the team. Team members may also establish personal fundraising goals and organize their own fundraising initiatives. Individuals who cannot physically join the event may participate as virtual runners to help registered friends, family, and colleagues.
The 2016 Boston Marathon will take place April 18, 2016, and buildOn has set its team fundraising goal at $100,000. To learn more about the marathon and how to participate, visit www.buildon.org/2015/10/april-20th-2016-run-the-2016-boston-marathon-for-buildon.
